WWII
1939 U.S. Wool Overcoat
Officially named the
"Overcoat, Wool, Melton, OD, Roll Collar, 32.-oz."
This coat was standardized in 1939. In 1942, brown plastic
buttons replaced brass buttons, but both styles were issued
en masse during the winter campaign of 1944-1945. This particular
coat is a 38R, and is in fair condition with some moderate
mothing on the collar and near the side pockets. While searching
through the coat I found a nickle sized spiritual icon safety
pinned to the inside of the liner, placed in there by some
GI looking for comfort or good luck. A pocket includes one
extra large Waterbury brass button in an old paper bag. Here
is a great overcoat for the collector or reenactor that likely
saw service in WWII. WW2- $45.00 |
